What can I expect after?

Laser freckle removal and pigmentation removal procedures require very little downtime. Any sensitivity or warmth usually resolves within 2 – 4 hours. In the 48 hours following treatment, it’s normal for pigmentation to appear darker than before and to continue darkening. After that, scabs or crusts will develop over the treated areas before shedding naturally. Within 14 days, healing is complete and your fantastic new skin is revealed.

Does it hurt?

Rest assured: Laser Pigmentation Removal isn’t painful. The concentrated heat from the laser can create a warm prickly sensation which some people say is uncomfortable but not distressing. Any post-treatment discomfort usually settles within 2 to 4 hours.

How long between treatments?

In most cases, we recommend a programme of treatments spaced four weeks apart.

  1. Avoid sunbathing, solariums and fake tan for two weeks before your treatment.
  2. It’s recommended clients use a tyrosinase inhibitor such as our TX Tranexamic Acid Serum and Lighten Cream with Kojic Acid for a minimum of 14 days pre-treatment. Tyrosinase inhibitors help slow your skin’s production of melanin. Not suitable for clients who are pregnant and breast feeding.
  3. Prior to your first pigment removal treatment with us, you are required to have your pigment checked by a GP or dermatologist to check it is safe to be removed. Please bring your clearance letter to your appointment.

FAQs

Can Laser Pigmentation Removal be performed on all skin types?

Clear Skincare uses Candela™ and KTP medical-grade lasers to break down the pigment in freckles, dark spots and age spots without harming the surrounding skin tissue. Our methods are safe for both men and women with fairer skin (Types 1 – 3 on the Fitzpatrick Scale). For darker skin (Types 4 – 6), we recommend a range of other skin treatments such as Signature and Overnight Peels.

To learn more, book a complimentary Skin Consultation with Clear Skincare. We’ll discuss your goals and determine the most suitable treatment plan for you.

Is Laser Pigmentation Removal safe?

Yes. Our highly trained skin therapists use pigmentation removal techniques that are safe and effective on all recommended skin types. We encourage you to discuss all aspects of the treatments available and what you can expect post-treatment at your complimentary Skin Consultation.

What are the side effects?

The treatment area may feel a little hot (like a mild sunburn) in the hours after the procedure. Later, crusts or scabs will form over the targeted freckles, age spots or sun spots – but these soon drop off naturally. Just remember to avoid sun exposure before and after laser pigmentation treatments.

What should I expect after my treatment? Will I need time off work?

The good news is that Laser Freckle Removal and Pigmentation Removal have very minimal downtime, and any effects can be easily managed so you can carry on with life – and work – as normal.

Immediately after the treatment, you may experience some mild discomfort and redness which usually settles within a couple of hours. Post-treatment, the pigmentation will appear darker than before and may deepen in colour for 48 hours. A crust or scab will eventually form and gradually flake away.

This process can take up to 14 days. During this time, Red Cover BB Cream can be used to help camouflage the treated areas. After this time, your skin will look more even and refreshed.

How do I maximise the benefits of Laser Pigmentation Removal?

It’s important to avoid sun exposure and any other form of tanning before and after treatment. Post-procedure, our knowledgeable skin therapists will provide the necessary information and skincare products to maximise the benefits of Laser Pigmentation Removal. In general, we recommend using sunscreen at all times to prevent the formation of freckles, sunspots and age spots.

Does laser treatment remove freckles and pigmentation permanently?

Everybody’s skin is different, and the effectiveness of any skin treatment depends on your skin type, any existing skin conditions and your post-treatment care plan. With that in mind, Clear Skincare uses advanced laser technology with excellent long-term results.

Any hyperpigmentation that occurs as a result of sun damage can be removed and, with careful ongoing care, it can be held at bay. Hormonal pigmentation can be supressed, and treatments can remove the pigment that’s present, but laser treatment cannot resolve the underlying hormonal condition.

How many treatments will I need?

Normally, 3 - 6 treatments are required to completely destroy the pigment – however, your personal treatment requirements will depend on the number, nature and cause of the freckles, sun spots, age spots or skin discolourations. We will suggest a program of treatment at your initial consultation.

Is Laser Pigmentation Removal painful?

No. Some people report feeling a slight stinging sensation during their laser treatments followed by some warmth and redness at the treatment site, but any discomfort usually settles within 2 - 4 hours.
