Day of appointment – avoid applying moisturisers or creams to the treatment area.

One day before – shave the area to be treated.

One week before – avoid using any cosmeceutical products on treatment area such as Vitamin A / retinol creams or lightening creams with Hydroquinone.

Two weeks before – avoid any form of tanning including fake tan and sun exposure for two weeks before and after appointments.

Four weeks before – no waxing, epilating or tweezing four weeks prior to appointments as the hair follicle needs to be present for the laser to be attracted to pigment.

Immediately after laser treatment – skin may appear red and bumpy for 1-3 days post treatment.

Things to avoid – direct sun exposure, solariums and fake tan for two weeks before and after laser hair removal. Avoid the gym, spa and sauna for 24 hours. Do not pluck or wax hair. The hair will naturally come out during exfoliation.

Post treatment products – Microdermabrasion Cream with Glycolic Acid, Post Laser Gel, Exfoliating cloth, PIH (Fitz 3+ only)

Day of treatment – there may be some mild heat and redness in areas that have been treated. Apply Post Laser Gel liberally AM & PM for 5 days. If skin type 3+ apply PIH Cream AM & PM for 5 days after Post Laser Gel.

Seven days post treatment – use anti-bacterial exfoliating cloth in a circular motion once a day for the next seven days.

Weekly – use Microdermabrasion Scrub with Glycolic Acid. Apply a small amount and rub into the skin before rinsing thoroughly.

Laser hair removal uses an intensive light beam, a source of high energy. This works to reduce unwanted hair by focusing that intense light on the hair follicles, without damaging the skin in the treatment area. The pigment in the hair absorbs the laser energy, converts it into heat which then damages the hair follicle, preventing regrowth.

Generally, because the laser is attracted to pigment it works well on dark hair, especially if there is a contrast between your hair and your skin colour. If your unwanted hair is dark it can be good to have your laser hair removal work done when your skin is the lightest, such as during winter months.

Everybody has a different pain threshold. Individual’s pain tolerance in relation to skin sensitivity can vary due to factors such as:

1. hormone levels 
2. medications 
3. state of health
4. amount of sleep (may heighten skin sensitivity and lower pain thresholds.) 

Most people would say that waxing hurts, and laser hair removal treatments are not considered as painful as waxing. So, if you’re used to waxing and are thinking of trying laser hair removal, you can rest assured it will feel virtually pain-free in comparison.

Some clients describe the treated areas as feeling ‘warm and tingly’ at the most.
